The Dunlop Prototype Series is the new home of Prototype and CN Cars. The sight of these low, high downforce Cars surging toward a braking zone is a spectacle for anyone to behold and reminds of the famous Le Mans round the clock race. The aim of the all new Dunlop Prototype Series is to reproduce the spirit of this great race but in a shorter format and also to give the owners of these amazing machines a place to compete and enjoy their Cars.
For 2016 the Dunlop Prototype Series, as the name suggest, will be a race series made up of 4 x 1 hour and 1 x 2 hour race races over 4 race meetings. The Dunlop Prototype Series will be visiting 2 of this years World Endurance Championship Circuits: Silverstone GP Layout and the mighty Spa Francorchamp in Belgium. The remaining rounds visit both Donington Park with its flowing Craner Curves and Snetterton with it new '300' layout. The Spa Francorchamp round will remind competitors and spectators of the Le Man 24 hour as Britcar's other Championships, the Dunlop Endurance Championship and the Dunlop Production Championship will be joining the Dunlop Prototype Series for the 2 hour race at the legendary Circuit.
Class Structure: LMP2 - All current and previously ACO homologated LMP2 Cars running as homologated. LMP Evo - LMP Cars (non homologated) & Prototypes running to LMP2 level bhp to weight ratio. LMP3 - All current ACO Homologated LMP3 Cars running as homologated. Proto Sports - Prototype cars such as Radical SR8, RX Spyder running to set bhp to weight ratio. CN1 - Post 2011 Carbon Chassis CN Cars based on FIA CN running to european rules. CN2 - Pre 2011 Spaceframe Chassis CN based on FIA CN running to european rules.
All races will include a 90 second mandatory pit stops allowing the option of 2 driver teams and hence further easing the cost of racing between two drivers.
If cars need to refuel they will be required to follow the MSA Re-fuelling guide lines and use the correct dump churns etc. Sunoco fuel will be on site for all fuel if require.
Trophies to be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd overall and also just as important 1st, 2nd & 3rd in Class. (2 per car).
Dunlop continue their long-term relationship with us and their tyres will be mandatory for all races. Fuel, on the other hand, will be open allowing teams to make their own choice of source and provision. Sunoco will continue to attend to help avoid the issues with transportation.
New to the Championship will be on-site professional catering of two meals per day for up to two people per team.
Although for 2016 the Dunlop Prototype Series is a series, we will be working throughout the year to get approval from the MSA to acheive full Championship status for 2017. Also in 2017, the Dunlop Prototype Series will be joining the Dunlop Endurance Championship and the Dunlop Production Championship and creating the full Britcar Race Package. Once intergrated Drivers could work they way up from a Ford Fiesta in the Dunlop Production Championship right up to a full Le Mans Prototype in the Dunlop Production Series all within the Britcar Race Package.
