Charlie’s Promise – Britcar’s chosen charity for 2026 – was created in memory of Charlie Cosser, a bright, kind and funny young man whose life was tragically taken by knife violence in July 2023. As Charlie lay fighting for his life, his dad Martin made him a promise: that he would spend the rest of his life educating young people about the dangers and immeasurable consequences of knife crime. That promise became their purpose.

The people beind Charlie’s Promise are driven by love, loss and the determination to create change. Through education, awareness and support, they empower young people to make safer, more positive choices and to understand the real-life impact of knife crime.

Martin says, “we are incredibly grateful to Britcar Endurance for choosing Charlie’s Promise as their charity of the year. As a small and young charity, we rely heavily on the support and kindness of others to help us raise awareness of the devastating impact of knife crime in the UK and to support our work with young people.

Your support will help us reach more young people with Charlie’s story and our message — that one choice can change lives forever. Together, we can help prevent other families from experiencing the loss that we live with every day.

Thank you, Britcar Endurance, for standing with us and helping us carry Charlie’s legacy forward“.

Britcar Managing Director Claire Hedley is keen to support Charlie’s Promise, as she explains: “Martin has spoken at my youngest daughter’s school about his personal experience with Knife Crime, and in January this year there was a knife attack in my local area where a boy known by many of my elder daughters friends was killed. We greatly appreciate Martin’s acceptance of our support for Charlie’s Promise, to raise awareness of the consequences of this awful crime“.
